Join regatta photographer Leighton O'Connor on one of his 2o16 Sailing Photo Safaris. Leighton is going to show photo and sailing buffs how to photograph sailboat regattas. Leighton has covered sailboat racing around the world including the America's Cup, Volvo Ocean Race, BVI Spring Regatta, St. Thomas Rolex Regatta, Newport Bucket Regatta, Marblehead Halifax Ocean Race, Newport to Bermuda and Key West Race Week to name a few.
Learn that right way to use auto focus while shooting a sailboat race. Leighton will also cover strong composition principles, ISO, shutter speed and aperture setting. But more importantly where to position yourself on the race course to get the best action shots. This will all take place on the 45ft power catamaran, Endeavour.A very stable and comfortable platform for shooting races.Endeavour will leave from Salem Willows Park Pier in Salem, MA. Safaris will be limited to 15 photographers but a guest may join you for an additional fee of$50.
While Leighton provides instructions he will share stories about sailing and driving various sailboats such as Volvo 70, Gunboat, RC 44, Extreme 40 and sailing with well known skippers like Ken Reed and Russell Coutts. You will actually be photographing a real sailboat regatta. You may have the opportunity to photograph North Shore landmarks such as Marblehead Neck, Bakers Island and Hospital Point Light House if time permits. On the way back to the dock Leighton will provide photo critiques on a 42" flat screen TV.
Hunt's Photo & Video is a sponsor again this year. They will be giving away gift cards. Hunt's Donald Toothaker will be on board to answer all those tough questions Leighton O'Connor can't answer. Donald is an expert on field photography and runs several of them through the year.
